Buying school uniform can quickly become one of the biggest expenses of the summer holidays, especially if you have more than one child. The good news is that many retailers are already launching their back-to-school offers, making now one of the best times to shop.
Buying early not only gives you the best choice of sizes, but it can also help you avoid the last-minute rush and take advantage of some fantastic discounts before demand increases.
We’ve been hunting around for some of the best school uniform deals available right now (with a little inspiration from money-saving expert Martin Lewis too!).

DID YOU KNOW?
The Government has announced that From September 2026, schools in the UK can no longer expect families to buy more than 3 items of branded school uniform. For middle schools and Secondary schools, this is increased to 4 but only if the fourth item is a school tie.
You are within your rights to find a suitable non-branded alternative in the school colours, which may be easier to find, simpler to order and easier on the wallet! Schools will also be required to offer second hand uniforms to help families with a lower household income.
For the school uniform staples, we know you’ll aways need plenty of shirts, skirts, trousers and jumpers. Oh and umpteen pairs of socks!
At the end of the day it’s what you do, not what you wear that counts.
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own, and you know what you know. And you are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”
Dr Seuss
Extra Ways to Save
As well as shopping the latest offers, there are a few simple ways to keep school uniform costs down:
- Buy early while the most popular sizes are still available.
- Check whether your child’s school runs a pre-loved uniform sale.
- Ask in local community Facebook groups for second-hand items in good condition.
- Buy a little bigger where appropriate to help items last longer.
- Keep an eye out for supermarket reward schemes and vouchers that can be used on clothing.
You can also get cashback via your bank account, or a similar scheme when you purchase your school uniforms online – this can apply to any online purchases if the retailer participates. You can save hundreds if you apply this to other household expenses such as your energy bills!
If adults in the household wear a uniform for work that you repair or wash yourself, you can also claim tax relief. This must be a specific uniform for your role, such as working in healthcare or the emergency services. If you aren’t offered a way to launder or repair these by your employer, you can claim tax relief on the cost of maintaining your uniform.
The good news is that if your children attend GO GO Makers they can wear what they want! All we ask is that it’s safe and easy to move in, as long skirts and baggy trousers can be trip hazards. Trainers are ideal, but as long as shoes are flat and comfy, we really don’t mind. Happy feet make for happy faces!
See you at a GO GO Makers setting soon!
